What type of autopilot do the e-jets have
Single autopilot with a fuel channel configuration.
One channel active while other is a hot spare.
How many servos for pitch, roll, and yaw

Where are the autopilot servos connected
They are connected to the controls. Movement of the control column, wheel, and rudder peddles may be observed
What happens when you press the autopilot quick disconnect push button once on the control wheel
- Disengages the autopilot
- triggers the aural warning “autopilot”
- the FMA “AP” annunciation blinks red
How do you momentarily override the autopilot
Press and hold the TCS button on the control wheel
When will the autopilot disengage
- AP button is pressed in the guidance panel
- either manual pitch trim switch is actuated
- either stick shaker is activated
- windshear escape guidance is activated
Which events cause the autopilot to disconnect and an EICAS message
- reversion of the fly-by-wire system to direct mode
- either elevator or aileron control system is disconnected
- a pilot input contrary to the autopilot
- internal monitor failure
When is the yaw damper engaged
Automatically after power up of either hydraulic system 1 or 3.
Or when the YD button on the AFCS guidance control panel
When is the YD automatically disengaged
After shutdown of both hydraulics 1 and 3
Where is the Flight Mode Annunciation (FMA) displayed
On the PFD
What annunciation a does the FMA display
Autothrottle
Autopilot
Approach status
Vertical and lateral modes
What does the FMA color magenta mean
FMS commanded active/engaged mode
What does the FMA color green mean
Non-FMS commanded active/engaged mode
What does the FMA color white mean
Armed mode
What does the FMA color amber mean
Alert condition
What does the FMA color red mean
Abnormal condition
When will the Baro/RA window flash amber
When both sides are not on the same setting
Which side of the approach status annunciation is the current engaged mode
Right side
Which APPR mode do you use for CAT
II approaches
APPR 2
What are the lateral modes
- Roll Hold (ROLL)
- Heading Select (HDG)
- Lateral Navigation (LNAV)
- Licalizer (LOC)
- Back-Course (BC)
Pilot non-selectable mode is:
- Track Hold (TRACK)
What does ROLL mode maintain
If engaged at 6 degrees or less, it will roll wings level
If engaged at bank angles above 6 degrees and below 35, it will hold that angle
If engaged at angles 35 degrees and higher, it will hold 35 degrees
When will ROLL mode activate
- Pressing TOGA button while on ground and IAS is below 100kts
- no lateral mode active and a vertical mode is selected
- deselecting an active lateral mode
- COURSE TO INTERCEPT on the FMS is activated
When is ROLL mode deactivated
When another lateral mode becomes active
how do you select LNAV on the guidance panel
by pressing the NAV button
what becomes the source for lateral navigation when LNAV mode is selected
The FMS
How do you select LOC mode on the GP
by pressing the APP button
what is the widest bank angle for Localizer capture
35 degrees
Which lateral mode is used for takeoff and goaround
TRACK HOLD (TRACK)
When will automatic transition from ROLL to TRACK during takeoff occur
- IAS is greater than 100 kts and
- Bank angle is at 3 degrees or below for more than 10 seconds
which lateral mode is armed when TOGAs are pressed in flight
TRACK
How do you de-activate TRACK mode
you must select another lateral mode
What are the Vertical Modes
- Flight Path Angle (FPA)
- Takeoff (TO)
- Altitude Select (ASEL)
- Flight Level Change (FLCH)
- Altitude Hold (ALT)
- Vertical Speed (VS)
- Vertical Navigation (VNAV)
- Overspeed (OVSP)
- Glide Slope (GS)
- Go around (GA)
- VGP (VGP)
How many vertical navigation modes are there
eleven
which is the default vertical mode
Flight Path Angle (FPA)
when will FPA become active
- When the autopilot is engaged and no FD mode is active or
- Pressing the FPA button on the guidance panel; 0r
- A lateral mode is activated and there is no vertical mode active; or
- Deselecting the current vertical mode.
What does TO mode use to determine the initial pitch
- Flap selection
- airplane weight
- V2 speed
how do you de-activate TO mode
- Select another vertical mode
- Engaging the AP switches to FPA
What is the TO pitch angle logic
When airborne and IAS is greater than speed target:
- All engines operating = V2 +10
- One engine inoperative:
Engine fail below V2 = V2
Engine fails between V2 and V2 +10 = present speed
Engine failure above V2 + 10 kt = V2 +10 kts
In TO mode, what are the pitch limits
8-18 degrees
What is the speed target range during TO mode with all engines operating
Vshaker + 10 to Vfe5
with one engine inoperative, what is the minimum speed target in TO mode
Vshaker + 3 kts
Explain Flight Level Change (FLCH)
will climb or descend to the altitude selected according to the Speed selected by varying pitch
During FLCH mode, what with the FMA display
SPDE
at what altitude does the speed readout change from IAS to MACH during climb? Descent?
29,000 ft for both climb and descent
which altitude will be maintained when the ALT button is pressed
The current altitude at the time the ALT button was pressed
what are the increments of Vertical Speed with each click of the wheel
50 fpm (below 1000ft) and 100 fpm (above 1000ft)
what happens when Overspeed protection activates
- amber OVSP indication displays on the FMA.
- the previous active mode is displayed as armed (white) and becomes active again when OVSP protection is no longer active
