FIRE PROTECTION Flashcards
How many engine fire bottles do we have?

How many apu fire bottles do we have?

How many cargo fire bottles do we have?
2
What all happens when you pull a fire handle?
- arms one discharge squib on each engine fire extinguisher
- closes spar fuel valve and engine fuel valve
- closes hydraulic shutoff
- closes engine bleed air valves
- disables thrust reverser
- trips generator control relay and breaker
— deactivates engine driven hydraulic pump LOW PRESSURE light
— allows engine fire switch to rotate.
Does the fire handle unlock without a fire indication?
No. Its locked in place. You can press the override switch and pull the handle
How many minutes after the first cargo bottle is discharged does the second bottle automatically discharge?
15 minutes
What happens if you discharge one cargo fire bottle but then you land before the second bottle discharges? Will it discharge?
No. If you land within 15 minutes of discharging the first cargo fire bottle, the second one will not discharge. It will be inhibited due to air ground logic.
Is there a way to discharge the apu fire bottle from outside the aircraft?
Yes. There is a switch on the apu control panel in the wheel well
Is there a notification about apu fire on the ground outside the aircraft?
Yes. Horn sounds in the main wheel well
What all happens when you pull the apu fire handle?
- Closes the apu bleed valve
- Closes the apu fuel shutoff valve
- Closes the apu door
- Trips the apu generator off line
What does the green blinking light in the lavatory smoke detector mean?
Needs maintenance
What does the red blinking light on the lavatory smoke detector mean?
Detector has failed
What does steady red on the lavatory smoke detector mean?
Smoke is detected
Engine fire detection is provided by which bus?
Battery bus
Engine fire protection is provided by which bus?
Hot battery bus
How many loops are in the engine fire detection system?
Dual loop
Do both fire loops need to sense an over heat or fire to give you a warning?
Yes. Unless they are in single loop operation.
Can one fire loop be MELd?
Yes. You can be dispatched single fire loop for each engine.
What happens if there is a fault in one fire loop?
The fire loop is isolated and no longer used to detect over heat or fire
There is no flightdeck indication of single loop failure. True or False?
True
Does the apu have a single or dual fire loop system?
Single
Does the main wheel well have a single or dual loop detector?
Some have single and some aircraft have dual loops
Does the main wheel well have fire protection?
No. Only detection
If you test the wheel well fire detection system with DC power only, The WHEEL WELL fire warning light on the overheat and fire protection panel may or may not illuminate. True or False?
True
For accurate testing of wheel well fire detection system, do the test after establishing AC power. True or False?
True
Main wheel well fire protection consists of fire detection powered by AC transfer bus 2 and battery bus. True or False?
True
Will you get a cargo fire indication if you don’t have AC power established on the aircraft?
No. Because its powered by DC bus 1 and DC bus 2
What powers the cargo fire protection system?
Hot battery bus
How does cargo fire detection system work?
The forward and aft cargo compartments each have smoke detectors in a dual loop
configuration. Normally, both detection loops must sense smoke to cause an alert. In
the event of a detector failure, the system can be manually converted to single-loop
detection through the DETECT SELECT switch on the cargo fire control panel. In the
event of a power failure in one loop the system automatically converts to single-loop
detection.
Some aircraft only have 1 cargo fire extinguisher bottle installed. True or False?
True
How many total minutes of cargo fire extinguishing capability does the 737 have?
75 minutes
How does the lavatory fire bottle work?
Automatically discharges when the fire melts a fuse plug
