Fire Protection Flashcards
What fire protection systems are fitted for the engines
The engines are each equipped with a fire-detection and a fire-extinguishing system. The systems are controlled from the ENGINE FIRE panel. Fire and faults will be detected and the relevant alerts presented
How many loops are there in the engine system
2 loops
If a loop is broken will it still work
Yes
How many extinguisher bottles are available for the engines
2
What does pulling the fire handle do
Pulling a fire hand le will close the respective fire shut-off valves in the fuel and hydraulic systems and the Over Pressure and Shut-Off Valve (OP/SOV) in the bleed-air system.
How do you fire a bottle
Rotating the pulled fire handle in direction DISCH 1 discharges AGENT 1; rotating the pulled fire handle in direction DISCH 2 discharges AGENT 2.
What can you do if the fire handle cannot be pulled
Manual override of the latch is possible by depressing the latch override button installed behind the fire handle
What indication is there of bottle pressure
Agent low pressure will be indicated by agent low pressure lights.
Describe an engine fire warning
Level 3 alert. Relevant fire handle light on. Relevant FUEL lever light on (OPEN position only). FIRE ENG 1 /2 messages at the LH MFDU. - ENG 1 /2 alert light on at the SAP (SAP in back-up).
Describe an engine fire warning test
Level 3 alert. Relevant fire handle light on. Relevant FUEL lever light on (OPEN position only). FIRE ENG 1 /2 messages at the LH MFDU. - ENG 1 /2 alert light on at the SAP (SAP in back-up).
What fire protection is fitted in the APU
The APU is equipped with a fire-detection and a fire- extinguishing system. The systems are controlled from the APU FIRE panel
Describe an APU fire warning and the result
Level 3 alert - APU FIRE light on at the APU FIRE panel - FIRE APU message at the LH MFDU - FIRE APU alert on at the SAP (SAP in back-up) NOTE During test the APU auto shutdown and auto fire extinguishing and warning horn are inhibited
What is the purpose of the warning horn
To alert the crew
Describe an APU fire test
Level 3 alert - APU FIRE light on at the APU FIRE panel - FIRE APU message at the LH MFDU - FIRE APU alert on at the SAP (SAP in back-up)
How long will the fire warning remain active
The fire warning remains active as long as the fire condition exists
How do you know the bottle has been fired
Agent low pressure will be indicated by an agent low pressure light
What back up is there if an APU bottle doesn’t fire automatically
A discharge switch, located at the APU FIRE panel, is provided to discharge the agent manually. In this case the APU fire shut-off valve in the fuel system closes and the agent will be discharged immediately.
What warning is there of cargo smoke
Smoke and faults will be detected and the relevant alerts presented, level 3 MWL, smoke AFtT or FWD
What happens when you select DISCH 1 or 2
Selecting DISCH 1 causes immediate total discharge of agent 1 into the selected compartment. Simultaneously agent 2 is discharged into the selected compartment at a reduce flow rate to maintain a minimum extinguishing agent concentration. Selecting DISCH 2 will discharge the same agent 1 and agent 2, however the power supplies for discharging are interchanged for redundancy.
What warning is there of smoke in a toilet and what is the result
One fire-extinguisher bottle is installed in the waste container area in each toilet compartment. If there is a fire in the waste container, the agent will discharge automatically into the waste container. Level 2 and no auto suppression
Describe a smoke warning system test
A smoke-warning test may be performed by depressing the SMOKE test button at the TEST panel. If no LOOP FAULT exists, a repetitive triple chime is produced and the master WARNING lights and cargo SMOKE lights come on. Additionally, a smoke message is displayed at LH MFDU
