Fire Protection Flashcards
For which of the following structures is there no fire extinguishing system?
(Answer which HAVE a fire extinguishing system)
Engines
APU
Baggage compartments
Lavatory
Each engine has how many fire detection loops?
3 in each nacelle:
Primary Engine Zone
Leading Edge Zone
Main Wheel Well Zone
How does an engine fire loop detect a fire?
The loop is filled with helium gas. If there is a fire, the fire heats the helium which expands and increases the pressure in the loop. The increased pressure triggers a switch to indicate a fire warning.
How many fire extinguishing bottles are installed in the wing root?
2 bottles for engine extinguishing
T/F: The fire extinguishing bottles for the engines can be discharged into either engine’s nacelle.
TRUE
Which of the following does NOT happen when an overheat condition occurs in an engine nacelle?
(Answer what DOES happen)
Master Warning light (flashing red) on glareshield illuminates
Related engine PULL FUEL/HYD OFF T-handle illuminates red
CHECK FIRE DET warning light (flashing red) on warning light panel
Both ENGINE FIRE PRESS TO RESET lights (flashing red) illuminate on the left and right sides of glareshield
Aural “Warning tone” sounds
What may be pressed to silence the engine fire aural tone sounds in the flightdeck?
Either ENGINE FIRE PRESS TO RESET light
How long will the engine T-handle lights be illuminated during an engine fire?
Until the fire is extinguished (no longer detected)
Which of the following does NOT happen when pilots pull the FUEL/HYD OFF T-Handle?
(Answer what DOES happen with the T-handle is pulled)
Emergency Fuel Shutoff Valve closes
Emergency Hydraulic Shutoff Valve closes
FWD and AFT fire bottles arm (amber lights illuminate on fire panel)
Which of the following might have happened if the engine fire bottle ARM light does not illuminate?
Maybe loss of pressure (BTL Low light illuminates)
Squib malfunction
How do pilots discharge an engine fire bottle after it has been armed?
Using the spring loaded EXTG switch to FWD BTL or AFT BTL
When pilots hold the test switch for the fire systems to the #2 engine side, what indications illuminate?
Master Warning Light #2 PULL FUEL/HYD OFF T-handle light CHECK FIRE DET warning light Both ENGINE FIRE PRESS TO RESET lights FAULT A and FAULT B lights
How many times a day are pilots required to check the engine fire detection system?
Prior to the first flight of the day
T/F: Pressing the ENGINE FIRE PRESS TO RESET button silences the warning tone and the flashing warning lights.
TRUE
Which of the following statements best describes the APU’s fire detection and extinguishing systems?
Fully automatic when R Essential Bus is energized
T/F: The fire bottle for the APU can be used to put out fires in the engine nacelles.
FALSE, the APU fire bottle can only be used for the APU
Which of the following is not a component of the APU fire extinguishing system?
(Answer which IS a component of the APU fire system)
Fire extinguishing bottle and tubing
Fire detection loop in tailcone above APU
Control circuit
