Engine detection loops
Two loops per engine A&B
Gas filled
Feed info to the FDU
FDU will generate a warning if:
Both loops detect a fire
One loop failed & one loop detects a fire
Both loops have have within seconds of each other
APU is the same
Fire alerts
- CRC
- red ENG FIRE & LAND ASAP displayed on ECAM
- Engine page appears on SD
- Fire light illuminates next to respective ENG MASTER Switch
- ENG FIRE pb illuminates on overhead panel
APU: APU FIRE light and APU SD page no indication on APU panel rest is the same
When FIRE pb is pressed
Silenced CRC
Hydraulic fire valve closes
LP engine fuel valve closes
Respective elec gen deactivates
Respective pack value closes
Respective Eng bleed valve closes
Engine FADEC unpowered
Both fire bottles arm
Cargo smoke detectors
Detects smoke particles not heat
Warnings are generated:
Smoke is detected by both
1 detector is inop 1senses smoke
Fwd and aft cargo
Fwd: one cavity 2 detectors, no ventilation
Aft: 2 cavities total of 4 detectors, heat and ventilation. Inlet and outlet fan valves close automatically in the event of a fire
Cargo halon bottle provides protection for how long?
1 hour

Cockpit indications:
Master Warning
CRC
Red lav smoke on ECAM
Don’t know which lav
LAV fire protection
Smoke warnings are fought by portable extinguishers
Each lav has a cabinet fire detector and self contained extinguisher. Completely automatic with no flight deck indications
Avionics Smoke
Only smoke detector
Indications:
Single chime
Master caution (yellow)
AVIONICS SMOKE on ECAM
ELEC pages on SD
Amber SMOKE on EMER ELEC PWR panel GEN 1 LINE pb
VENTILATION panel fault light on BLOWER & EXTRACT pb’s
