What is the purpose of varnish
Its main purpose is to seal and protect wood products while showing off the wood’s distinctive grain and natural beauty.
What are the benefits of using varnish?
- Aesthetic appearance.
- Ease of application.
- Increases durability.
- Reduces chances of rot.
Describe oil (Danish oil)
Oil or more specifically Danish oil is a highly versatile oil that is water resistant and food safe. This makes it a popular choice for real wood kitchen worktops, food utensils, wooden tool handles and more. It dries to a hard, satin finish and is very easy to maintain.
What are the benefits of using oil (Danish oil)
- Aesthetic appearance.
- Ease of application.
- Increases durability.
Reduces chances of rot.
Describe stain
Wood stain (also known as wood tint) is comprised of a colorant and a solvent (like alcohol or water). Unlike wood stain, which sits on the top of the wood surface, wood dye penetrates the wood and colours the wood from within. The colour is more translucent than the colour from a wood stain.
What are the benefits of using stain
- Aesthetic appearance.
- Ease of application.
Increases durability.
Describe wax
Wax protects against bumps and spills, helping your wood stay healthy for longer. It also forms a barrier against dust, making cleaning easy. Wax is straightforward to apply, it often comes in wax or liquid form, and you apply by rubbing with a rag or like you would paint.
What are the benefits of using wax
- Aesthetic appearance.
- Ease of application.
Increases durability.
Describe paint
Paint is essentially the same as varnish, although it contains coloured pigments. Paints are applied with a brush or spray gun and add a protective layer to the surface. Paints are available as matt, silk and gloss finishes and they are either water based or oil (solvent) based. Unlike many other finishes that enhance the natural grain of the wood, paints hide the grain.
What are the benefits of using paint?
- Aesthetic appearance.
- Ease of application.
- Increases durability.
Reduces chances of rot.
Describe dip coating
Dip coating is an industrial coating process which is used, for example, to manufacture bulk products such as coated fabrics and condoms and specialised coatings for example in the biomedical field.
What are the benefits of using dip coating
- Prevents corrosion.
- Aesthetic appearance.
- Ease of application.
Increases durability.
Describe polish
Polish protects the table from scratching. But when you polish furniture or floors regularly with a spray or liquid product, you help to keep them looking new at the same time. Polish also reduces the friction of a wood surface, so there’s less adhesive on which dust will cling.
What are the benefits of using polish
- Aesthetic appearance.
- Ease of application.
- Increases durability.
Reduces chances of rot.
