Define function
Function is simply about what the product is designed to do: its purpose.

Define Performance
The performance of a product is about how well the product does what it is designed to do.
Define durability
The ability of the product to withstand the wear and tear.
Define Ease of Use
How simple it is to use the product.
Define Life expectancy
How long the product is made to last under normal use.
define Planned Obsolescence
Products may be designed to have a limited lifespan.
Define safety
Making sure that the product meets legal standards required and its materials and manufacturing quality make it safe for the consumer to use.
Define ergonomics
Ergonomics is about how people interact with the products they use
Define anthropometrics
The physical dimensions of different parts of the human body.
Define Physiology
How the body functions and its capabilities.

How our mind and senses work and react.
Define Aesthetics
Aesthetics is about the look or appearance of the product.
Define colour as a design factor
These are the colours used on the product. Colour can evoke feelings and associations and so should be considered carefully during any design.
Explain the Shape factor of design
Shapes are 2D and can affect the user in different ways. This concerns the overall shape of the design and the different parts or features of it.
Define Size/Proportion
how elements can be big or small and how the size of these relates to other elements.
define Texture
How the product feels or looks like it would feel.
Define Contrast
Where parts of the design (colours, pattern, textures) are opposites or stand out from one another.
Define Harmony
When parts of the design (colours, pattern, textures) are matched to one another.
Define market
Market covers both the people who will be buying or using the product and the promotion and selling of products.
Define Market Pull
When there is a demand for the product from consumers.
Define Technology push
When new technologies, materials and manufacturing methods are used in products and then ‘pushed’ onto the market.
Define Branding
The name, term, design, symbol, or any other feature that makes one seller’s product distinct from those of other sellers.
Example of market pull
The digital camera. Twenty years ago, there was a ‘market’ requirement for a camera that could take endless photographs, that could be viewed almost immediately.
Example of technology push
Touch screen technology was researched then invested into and was introduced to markets and is now seen in smart phones
Define promoting (marketing techniques)
The ways of getting consumers to know about the product.
Adverts, celebrity endorsements, influencers, sponsorship of big events
Name the marketing techniques associated with the selling of the product
Sales, discounts, BOGOF, special offers, free gifts, have a strong brand image.
What is a brand
A brand is the lasting impression a customer gets when they come into contact with a product or company.
