Fine Motor Development Flashcards
Five months
Raking (probated forearm, all fingers flexed) fingers and hand move as a unit in a raking motion
Birth
Palmer grasp reflex
Six months
Voluntary Palmar grasp replaces reflexive Palmer grasp
Seven months
Radial Palmer grasp
Index and middle finger flexed with thumb pressing obj into hand
Nine months
Radial digital grasp (thumb opposition to two fingers)
9 to 12 months
Inferior pincer grasp (thumb adducted & opposed against first finger)
12 months
Superior pincer grasp - tip to tip
three-jaw chuck - thumb opposition to 1st 2 fingers , wrist extended with ulnar dev
Prehension
The act of grasping
Reaching patterns depends on the position of the shoulder
Reaching patterns influence the ability of the hand to grasp objects
Hand regard
The infant first recognize the hand it two months of age.
The ATNR triggered by head turning allows the arm on the face side of the infant to extend and therefore it is in perfect place to be seen
Reflexive or Palmer grasp
The grasp happens in response to a stimulus. The reflexive grass is replaced by a voluntary Palmer grasp by the age of six months, The palm aggressive does not include the thumb
Voluntary grasp
At 6 months the grasp changes from reflexive to voluntary
At 7 months thumb begins to adduct allowing for radial Palmer grasp
Pincer grasp
Thumb and index finger, pad to pad contact with the object less grasp force, greater object mobile
