Final Exam Chapter Questions Flashcards
• How does the sample population relate to the whole population?
you are picking a group of people form the larger group so it can be inferenced back to that group of people.
• How does inference relate to choosing a population?
you are generalizing the results of a sample to the whole. if the sample groups represents some larger group then the findings can be inferences
• What is stratified Random Sampling? Explain
100 total 20 freshman 20 sophomores 20 juniors 20 seniors 20 super seniors
• Why are Post Hoc tests used in statistical analysis?
they help when the sample is not randomly selected. want to find generalizations to the larger group and this test will allow it to happen. also looks at comparing intact groups or groups within the sample tat are not randomly formed.
• What is effect size?
the standardized value that is the difference between the means divided by the standard deviation.
ES= (M1-M2)/ s
• What is correlation causation and how is it used in analysis?
correlation does not mean a cause
• What is the purpose of a prediction equation in analysis?— page 143
the greater the correlation between the variables the more accurately one can be predicted from the other
• How is an ANOVA used in analysis?
a test that allows the evaluation of the null hypothesis between tow or more group means
