Exam 2- chapter 14/ 16 Flashcards

1
Q

purpose of meta analysis

A

1 identify a problem
2 perform a literature search by specified means
3 review identified studies to determine inclusion or exclusion.
4 carefully read and evaluate to identify and code important study characteristics
5 calculate effect size
6 apply appropriate statistical techniques
7 report all these steps and the outcomes in a review paper.

Q

what are 4 ways to protect participants

A

1 planning the research
2 acquiring the approval of your university committee for the protection of human participants

Q

job analysis benifitis

Q

observational research

A

it provides a means of collecting data and is a descriptive method of researching a certain problem
- you are really just watch what is happening

Q

how to score observational research

A
  • narrative ( just writing )
  • tallying
  • interval methods ( did something happen in a certian interval of time?)
  • duration methods ( how did it take someone do to do something ?)

Q

weaknesses of observational research

A

1 behaviors must be cardfully defined and observable
2 inadequate raining in observation skills can represent a major pitfall in this form of research and looking at many ting scan be hard
3 the presence of the observer usually affects the behavior of the participants. the researcher must be aware of this likelihood and try to reduce the disturbance
4 generally having more than one observer greatly expedites observational research. failure to use more than one observer results in decreased efficiency and objectivity

Q

limitation of correlational research

pg. 318

A

includes those of both planning and analysis. simply correlatin a set of measurements to see what happens is not an effective way to approach research. selecting an inadequate measure as a criterion in a prediction study is a common weakness in correlational research
