Cinematography, mise en scene, editing, sound, performance, aesthetics, context and representation.
What are the elements of mise en scene?
Composition, setting & props, costume, hair & makeup and facial expression & body language.
What are the elements of cinematography?
Lighting & colour, camera movement, shot types and camera angles.
What are the elements of editing?
Continuity editing, shot transitions, manipulation of time and speed of editing.
What are the elements of performance?
Verbal & non-verbal communication, performance styles, acting styles and casting.
What are the elements of sound?
Sound effects, dialogue and music (score)
What do we look at when considering representations?
Who is doing the representation? Who is being represented? How do the representations link to the context? How are the messages and ideologies reinforced through representations? How are the representations constructed through elements of film form? Do the characters adhere to stereotypes or challenge them?
