Fighting in the war Flashcards
Where was the Western Front?
In Belgium and France
Why was there stalemate for 4 years in WW1?
Sometimes the soldiers tried to capture each other’s trenches. The attackers would run across no man’s land towards the enemy trenches and the defenders would try to pick them off with weaponry. For the loss of 50,000 men, one side might move forward for a week or two and gain a few hundred metres of muddy, useless ground. A week later they would probably return to their original trenches.
Which weapons were mostly used in WW1?
Rifles, poison gas, grenades, machine guns, tanks, flame throwers, artillery and fighter and bomber planes.
The machine gun was very deadly: could fire up to 10 bullets per second.
