List features of democracies
Ordinary people have a say in how their country is governed and they vote in regular elections.
People have freedom of speech
Freedom of information
Freedom of belief
Freedom in law (the right to a fair trial)
Freedom of association (the right to join or form a political party, join a trade union or any other organization)
Give examples of 3 democratic rights
Freedom of speech - you can say whatever you think
Freedom of information - you can read, listen to and watch whatever you want
Freedom of belief - you can believe in any religion
List features of dictatorships
Ordinary people have no say in how their country is run and there aren’t any regular elections.
No free speech
No freedom of information
Not all religions are allowed - if any!
There isn’t any legal freedom (the police can arrest whom they want. when they want and keep them in prison without trial)
People can only join groups or associations allowed by the dictatorship.
Give examples of 3 dictatorship features
No free speech - if they criticize their leaders, they’re likely to be arrested
No freedom of information - the dictator controls the newspapers, books, magazines, films, and so on
