She dislikes Brenna because she is filling in for her at the clinic and doing her jobs. Maggie feels displaced.

Maggie accidentally switches the numbers for Mitzy’s food scoop amounts when she writes out Mitsy’s diet, so when Brenna follows her instructions Mitsy becomes bloated.

She makes an agreement with her grandmother to write an extra credit report on how laws are made, to improve her social studies grade.
How can Maggie punish the owner of the puppy mill who is abusing all of the dogs they are treating?
She asks Sunita what to do. Sunita tells her that recently there have been laws passed about animal abuse that could protect these sick animals.

She asks the librarian who gives her a reference book on all the laws in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. With the help of Sunita they find the law that forbids selling pups without proper health care and records.
Why are all of the puppies coming into Dr. Mac’s clinic sick?
They are uncared for lacking water, proper diet, a clean place to sleep, and the proper shots required. They are coming into the clinic malnourished, and dehydrated. Many have diarrhea, anemia, and are shaking with high fevers. They are all from the puppy mill.
