Field Sanitation - ATP 4-25.12 - Chapter 7 Flashcards
The adverse impact of high environmental temperature can be reduced by doing what?
Drinking enough water, wearing clothing properly, maintaining a high level of fitness, and resting after exposure to heat.
What factors need to be considered when acclimatizing Soldiers
wet bulb globe temp. index, work rates and duration, uniform and equipment; and Soldiers’ physical and mental conditions
What are the types of heat injuries and heat related conditions?
Heat cramps, heat exhaustion, heat stroke / heat rash, sunburn, skin cancer, rhabdomyolysis, and hyponatremia
What are prevention strategies against heat injuries?
Acclimatization, maintaining good general health, establishing work rest schedules, wearing your uniform.
What are some heat injury prevention tools?
Training and education
What are the established uniform wear policies for each heat CAT?
1 and 2: No restrictions
3: Unblouse trouser legs and unbuckle belt
4 and 5: unblouse trouser legs and unbuckle belt, remove top or shirt, and remove helmets unless it’s a safety hazard
What is the purpose and general use of the wet bulb globe temp. index?
To determine the amount of heat stress on the body
How do you prepare the wet bulb globe temp. index kit for use?
open kit, lift thermometer out, check for deficiencies, wet the cotton wick and fill flask with distilled water, attach tripod and position kit approximately, 4 ft off the ground, keep tripod undisturbed for at least 10 min.
How do you determine the wet bulb-globe temperature
index?
Locate the dry bulb temperature on the dry bulb thermometer scale.
Holding the wet bulb scale, slide the dry bulb scale until the wet bulb temperature is directly under the dry bulb temperature.
Locate the black globe temperature on the bottom scale. Read the wet bulb-globe temperature
index from its scale directly above the black globe temperature.
