Ethnocentrism
Belief that one’s own culture, beliefs and practices are better than other. All other practices in cultural groups are measured against your own
Foundational to larger practices used to devalue and persecute other groups
Cultural relativism
- Perspective that dictates that cultures are viewed and evaluated upon their own beliefs and standards
- No such thing as a superior culture
- Adopted within Anthropology
Atlatl
Throwing sticks are grooved pieces of wood to hold a dart
Hunting tool used to throw a dart which acts as an extension of the throwers arm increasing range, accuracy and power

Large glacier which covered western Alberta, BC, and souther Yukon
Kwaday Dan Ts’inchi
Indigenous human remains that were found preserved in a glacier in norther BC in 1999. Remains were removed and autopsied, the First Nation people were then consulted on what type of research should take place. The remains were analyzed and dated then given back to the First Nation.

Found in Wally’s beach site in Southern Alberta. Reservoir was built in the 1950s, when it was drained, the site was exposed.

Ethnobotany
Study of a region’s native plants through the traditional knowledge of the local communities and cultures that live there
Examines cultural customs and knowledge related to the plants, how areas are ecologically managed, and how different species are used
Residential School
Schools opened up by the Canadian government responsible for Indigenous education. Main role of the schools were assimilation. Children were removed from their communities and subjected to assimilation practices and abuse.
