What’s Id-ul-Adha - the Festival of Sacrifice?
Id-ul-Adha remembers the prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son when ordered to by Allah. A sheep or lamb is slaughtered, usually in a mosque.
Muslims dress up in new clothes and go to the mosque
What’s Id-ul-Fitr?
The festival is the ending of the fasting of Ramadan.
A 3 day festival when Muslims spot the new moon. They celebrate with special food, exchange gifts and have a 3 day holiday.
What’s Id-ul-Ghadeer?
A Shi’a festival celebrating the day on which the prophet Muhammed delivered his last sermon and appointed Ali as his successor.
What’s Ashura?
The day that Muhammad dedicated to fasting. Celebrates the day Noah left the ark and Musa was saved from the Egyptians. Shia Muslims remember the death of the third Imam Hussayn. They grieve in public and sometimes whip and beat themselves to express their grief.
