What is accepted alignment of a femoral fracture in a child age 5 in a spica cast?
A
No more than 15 degrees of deformity in coronal plane
25-30 degrees in the sagital plane
Shortening shouldn’t exceed 2cm

What position should the hips be in the spica cast?
A
Flexion to 60-90 degrees to align the distal fragment with the flexed prox fragment . The higher the fracture the more hips should be flexed

What age of child is the spica cast appropriate tx?
A
Only for a child up to 10 years
