- postmodern feminists seek to analyse any notions that have let to gender inequality in society
- they also claim that gender is largely developed from a discourse that we learn to adopt over time
- another key element is the claim that patriarchy operates differently due to the social characteristics of women
- postmodern feminism is distinct to these three main strands of feminist thought
- it’s a type of feminism that emerged in the late 20th century
- it has been criticised for being too theoretical and disconnected from real-world issues

- some critics suggest that a main weakness of feminist theory is that it is from a woman-cantered viewpoint
- many people argue that feminism may discriminate men and that feminists take things too far
