female reproductive cycle Flashcards
What does the hypothalamus produce in the menstrual cycle?
GnRH: Gonadotrophin releasing hormone
What does the anterior Pituitary glands release in female repro?
- FSH: follicle stimulating hormone
- LH: Luitenising hormone
What are the 2 phases of menstrual cycle?
Follicular phase (day 0-14)
Luteal phase (day 14-28)
What hormone inhibit LH at low concentration?
oestrogen
The increase of what hormone reduce FSH?
Oestrogen
When is the negative and positive feedback of oestrogen?
negative - before 10 days
positive - after 10 days
What triggers ovulation
massive rise of LH which will then drop after ovulation
What hormones does corpus luteum release?
Oestrogen
Inhibitin
Progesterone
When does corpus luteum form?
after ovulation
What does the inhibitin do?
suppress FSH secretion
What does the progesterone do in the luteal phase?
- suppress GnRH (thus reduce LH and FSH).
- Stimulate endometrial growth.
What happens when corpus luteum degerate at the end of luteal phase?
progesterone decrease - GnRH levels increase - period and NEW CYCLE
