Feline cutaneous reaction patterns Flashcards
Self-induced symmetrical alopecia.
Differentials.
Pruritic - parasitic/ bacteria
Behavioural - anxiety, pain (musculoskeletal)
Spontaneous symmetrical alopecia.
Differentials.
Demodex cati
Infectious - dermatophytosis
Endocrine
Neoplastic
A cat is presented to you with linear areas of alopecia of the caudal thigh. A trichogram reveals fractured hairs.
Would you expect the alopecia to be spontaneous or self-induced?
Self-induced
A cat is presented with self-traumatic wounds to the head and neck. Further to this there are crusts erosions and ulceration of the skin.
What would be your differentials?
Parasites - otodectes, neotrombiculata
Infectious - malassezia or bacterial
Miscellaneous - bahavioural, pain, contact dermatitis
Describe a miliary pattern of dermatitis.
Small multifocal papular crusts, erythrematous and dry
What differentials would be suspected of a cat with miliary dermatitis?
Parasitic - cheyletiella, lice, otodectes
Microbial - bacterial, dermatophytosis
Misc
What are the different types of eosinophilic skin disease in the cat?
Plaque
Granuloma
Ulcer
Describe this lesion
The inguinal inner thigh shows focal alopecia with erythema and erosions.
Eosinophilic granuloma complex
What is shown here?
Eosinophilic indolent ulcer
Well demarcated red/brown ulcer w/ raised border (variable severity between cases)
