Feedback Flashcards
What are the 6 types of feedback?
Intrinsic Extrinsic Positive Negative Knowledge of Results (KR) Knowledge of Performance (KP)
Describe intrinsic feedback (with e.g.):
Internal proprioceptors
E.g. Middling a shot in cricket
Advantages of intrinsic feedback:
Immediate feedback, can immediately modify skill
Autonomous learner can use feedback effectively
Disadvantages of intrinsic feedback:
Some may not be as tuned into their sensors
Some may not be able to feel where they are going wrong
Describe extrinsic feedback (with e.g.):
Feedback received from teacher/coach
Point your toes in the dive
Advantages of extrinsic feedback:
Coach can easily eliminate errors
Disadvantages of extrinsic feedback:
Inaccurate feedback leads to negative feedback
Decrease in motivation of feedback is incorrect
Doesn’t improve kinaesthetic awareness
Describe positive feedback (with e.g.):
Feedback received when performer is successful
Coach praises athlete when they perform a correct drop shot
Advantages of positive feedback
Strengthens S-R bond
Leads to repetition and builds confidence/motivation
Disadvantages of positive feedback
Some won’t respond well to praise
If praise is incorrectly given -> performance will deteriorate
Describe negative feedback (with e.g.):
Internal or external, given when movement/skill is incorrectly performed
You didn’t use the correct technique
Advantages of negative feedback
Can increase motivation
Good for autonomous learner
Disadvantages of negative feedback
Can be demotivating or detrimental
Describe knowledge of results (with e.g.):
Performer receives results from coach
In order to improve future performance
Receive cricket figures
Advantages of knowledge of results
Allows to see outcome of actions
Can motivate performer
