Feedback Flashcards
types of feedback
- intrinsic
- extrinsic
- positive
- negative
- KoR
- KoP
what is intrinsic feedback and what is it used for
information for an internal source
used for:
- gaining kinesthesis
- detection of proprioceptors
- helps autonomous performers to correct movements
+ves and -ves of intrinsic feedback
+ good at autonomous stage
+ helps fluency
+ helps performer have more attentional space
- less effective at cog/asso stage
- can hinder learning if overused
- can be demotivating at cog/asso
what is extrinsic feedback and what is used for
information from outside sources
used for:
- cognitive performers who do not have kinesthesis
- supports intrinsic feedback
+ves and -ves of extrinsic feedback
+ good at cog/asso stage
+ teaches performer how to use intrinsic
+ source of positive reinforcement
- learner can become too dependent
- if overused as positive reinforcement can become ineffective
what is positive feedback and what is it used for
feedback given when the movement is correct
used for:
- reinforcement
- can be in/extrinsic
- motivation
+ves and -ves of positive feedback
+ good at cog/asso stage
+ indicates which part of the skill is correct
+ gives confidence
- less effective at auto stage
- ineffective if unspecific
- loses impact when used too often
what is negative feedback and what is it used for
corrective feedback when the movement is incorrect
used for:
- reduces bad habits
- can be in/extrinsic
+ves and -ves of negative feedback
+ good at auto stage
+ can finely tune skills
+ helps performer remain at the autonomous stage
- less effective at cog/asso stage
- can hinder learning if overused
- can be demotivating
what is KoR and what is used for
information about the outcome or result of a movement
used for:
- extrinsic
+ves and -ves of KoR
+ good at cog/asso stage
+ allows for correction after the movement
+ good for open skills as outcome is the measure of success
- can only be used after the movement
- not effective for closed skill
what is KoP and what is it used for
information about the quality of movement
used for:
- informing the performer if the skill is correct or not
+ves and -ves of KoP
+ good at auto stage
+ good for modifying overlearned skills
+ very effective in closed skills
- less likely at cog stage as learned through experience
- long process may be demotivating
