Clients have the right to be told of
their rights before services begin
Client has the to do what in regards to their services
they have the right to take part in choosing, planning, and changing any services
clients have the right to recieve
enough info to make an informed decision on their care (this includes kind of care, reasonable options, and the benefits, risks, and uncertainties related to each option)
they have to right to
voice a grievance (a complaint for being treated unfairly) about services or lack of services without fear of punishment.
They have the right to
refuse treatment, medications, or services
they have the right to keep medical
-and personal records kept confidential and follow health insurance portability and accountability act (HIPAA) rules.
they have the right to
have personal property where it does not violate the rights, health, or safety of themselves or others. To be treated with respect, along with their possessions
clients have the right to live
free from abuse and physical or chemical restraints
client have the right to be provided
with an administrative hearing when they do not agree with a decision regarding benefits (DSHS consumers only)
client have the to make
their own decisions
clients has the right to have
their own alone time (esp while you work)
clients have the right to
interact with people in and out of their home
client have the right to manage
their own financial affairs
consumers have the right to
send and receive unopened mail
care recipients have the right to
have privacy while using a telephone, computers, tablets, and other technology and in their home
remember, clients do not
give up their basic human rights when they start receiving services or move to a community care setting
to safeguard these basic freedoms
and ensure consumer independence and self respect, federal and state “consumer rights” laws have been established
Unless the client requests
to do something unsafe, or inappropriate, it is important for the HCA to know these rights and honor them
clients can not be forced
in any medical procedures against their will
consumers deserve respect
and have the right to refuse treatment. they can protect their right to free will and choice
Consumers rights to free will include
their daily activities, diet, exercise, medications, etc
consumers have the right to make
what an HCA may consider a poor choice
clients have the legal right
to expect their medical, financial, and personal records be kept confidential
consumers legal right to confidentiality
is required by law under HIPAA. Keep personal records confidential unless on care team.
As an HCA
you are bound under confidentiality laws.
If you need to share confidential information with the other care team members (can share with care team members only
share only what is needed and what is in the best interest of the consumer-do not gossip- do not have discussions about the client where others may overheat- keep notes in a private and protected place.
