It’s important to communicate with the client about toileting in a way that makes them comfortable
What are the best practices when communicating about toileting?
- identify and respect consumer preferences
- Use words the client uses and prefers when talking about toileting
- Give the client privacy whenever possible
- Know the client’s toilet schedule or routine
- Always be professional and courteous

How do you promote a healthy bowel and bladder?
- Drink plenty of liquids
- Relax (Don’t strain when going to the bathroom
- Exercise or stay fit if possible (and approved by the client’s medical provider)
- See a medical provider

- Make sure your environment supports your routine
- Make healthy food choices
What are some bladder conditions?
*Common bladder conditions include urinary incontinence, urinary tract infection, and kidney stones
What are some bowel conditions?
*Common bowel conditions include bowel incontinence, constipation, fecal impaction, and diarrhea.
