Increase peristalsis
What is used to treat Carcinoid syndrome? How? What other sx’s does it help?
Octreotide
- acts to inhibit the release of serotonin from the carcinoid tumor
- also affecting in decreasing flushing and diarrhea
What are the heart sx’s in carcinoid syndrome? Why is that affected only?
Tricuspid stenosis/ regurg
Pulmonic stenosis
- only affects left because the lung inactivate serotonin
What is the break down of serotonin found in the urine?
5 Hydroxyindoleacetic acid
- 5-HIAA
