FDN2_MDM Flashcards
Some cards, not comprehensive
What is a marker of disease?
A risk factor that does not cause the disease
In what scenario would you want to do a case-control analysis of a cohort study?
If there are additional variables you need to control for
Why would you use multiple different control groups to analyze a case-control study?
To examine whether the results are sensitive to different control groups; if they are, there may be a systematic difference betweent the study group and the main control group
What kind of diseases are case-control studies best suited for?
New onset (incident) cases; case-control studies are not good for studying prevalent disease
What kind of study would you use to answer the question “How often do complications occur after laproscopic surgery?”
A cohort study
Prospective: Patients who just underwent surgery
Retrospective: Go back in time to find patients who had surgery, look forward in their records to see if there were complications
(You can’t use a case-control study to find incidence of complications)
