What can cause a FDCL? (4)
Any saloon door failing to prove closed and locked
Door system fault - train cable
Coupler thinks it’s still coupled
DER activated
What do you do if you get a FDCL between stations?
Assume somebody is on the train, even if running empty cars
Check if DER indicator light illuminated
If moving between stations and DER light is illuminated what do you do?
Acknowledge resulting PEI call and request passengers stand clear of doors. Tell them stopping at next station
Reduce speed of train
Observe mirrors regularly
Investigate at next platform
If passengers don’t acknowledge, contact TC
If moving between stations and there is no DER activation what do you do?
PA announcement - remove any obstruction from doors
Reduce speed of train and stop at next station regardless of timetable
Release doors and close again.
If FDCL still occurring fault find
What happens if you are moving between stations, get a FDCL and have to stop at a signal?
The train won’t move again.
Contact TC, may have to get Track Access
or they may tell you to run slowly to next platform and detrain passengers
What do you do if you get a FDCL at a platform?
Release doors
PA Announcement - Stand clear
Close doors and see if it is rectified
If you can’t get rid of a FDCL at a platform what do you do?
Contact TC re delay
Make PA announcement asking if Pass. can see an open door or hear chimes - press PEI if so
If no response - cab unattended and check train
Take radio and Door Not In Use Stickers
If after fault finding you still can’t find a reason for FDCL what happens?
Detrain passengers
Train out of service
If you do find the faulty door what do you do?
Isolate it and use sticker
What happens when a DER is activated?
PEI call is generated
What do you do when DER is activated?
Request Pass stand well clear of door
Reduce speed of train
Contact TC re delay
Locate and reset DER at next platform with Tri-key
Book DER seal broken
