What FAVO does and what is FAVO?

A

The Fleet Aviation Officer (FAVO) is responsible for management of the embarked Naval Aviation Force and the provision of professional advice to COMSURF on the operational and tactical employment of Naval Aviation Assets.

The Fleet Aviation Office (FAvO) consists of three sections that are responsible for embarked aviation operations, policy and facilities management.

The Operations section (Fleet Aviation OPs) is responsible for aviation departmental management audit inspections and assessments in addition to supporting Sea Training Group throughout the workup continuum.

The Policy section (DASR139 - Assurance) is responsible for management of ANP 3300, DASR.139 compliance and conformance assurance and provides aviation subject matter expertise for the SURFOR AD OPR Quality Management and Safety Management Systems.

The Fleet Aviation Facilities Engineering (FAFE) section is responsible for the SURFOR Technical Compliance Assurance for Ship’s Aviation Facilities (SAF). This section undertake embarked aerodrome technical regulatory assurance duties IAW DASR.139 and relevant OIP, through the conduct of Aviation Fleet Technical Assessments (FTA-AE) and the monitoring technical standards of all aviation facilities in Air Capable Ships

A

Provide Authop (authority to operate) and to get that DMFTA (Departmental management fleet technical assessment and Aviation Sea safety assessment (ASSA).
