What are the two types of classification in fats
Saturated fats and unsaturated fats
What are saturated fats
Usually from animal sources such as butter and cheese
What are unsaturated fats
Usually from plant sources such as olive oil and nuts
What does fat produce (what does it give us)
Heat and energy
What may happen if you eat too much fat
It could result in obesity (being very overweight)
What could happen to your arteries if you eat too much saturated fats
A build up of cholesterol in the arteries which can cause high blood pressure, strokes or heart disease.
What is cholesterol
Is a hard wax fat which may build up on the walls of the arteries
What does fat insulate the body with
A layer of adipose tissue
What food is saturated fat in
All animal food e.g. meat, eggs and butter
What does some unsaturated fats reduce
Cholesterol in the blood
What are omega 3 fatty acids good for
Brain function
What are some sources of omega fatty acids
Oily fish (salmon, sardines), seeds and nuts
