Q

oxidation of FA

A

FA–> acetyl CoA (cytosol)
Beta oxidation in mitochondria= spiral process, releases NADH, FADH2 and a CoA. Can require carnitine transport, controlled by conc of malonyl CoA- inhibits enzyme

Q

Cholesterol synthesis

A

acetyl CoA–> mevalonate–> phosphorylated isoprene –. squalene (C30) –> lanosterol (ring structure)–> cholesterol
1st stage= controls rate- activity of HMG CoA reductase- controlled by phosphorylation
in cytosol and SER
