not very good, britain was not self seficiant and most of our food was imported from abroad
what develepments took place too ‘plug in the gaps’ in the farming workforce?
government introduced the womens land army - 1917 which adverticed farm work as enjoyable and easy encouraging many women to join up
government also passed the corn production act - 1917 which prommised a high price for home grown cereals such as weat and oats
what early actions where taken by the government in an atempt to maintain food supply?
- promosing farmers a higher price for crops which encouraged them to grow more
- encouraging the public to eat less and not waste food throgh propiganda
- indroducing meatless wednesdays and fridays

partly to do with foriegn competition with cheap inported food becoming more popular

Agriculture act of 1920 however this was abandoned in 1921 due to the poor state of the economy
what happened when the government stopped all financial help to farmers?
prices for agricultural goods fell at the same time and most farmworkers either lost their jobs or had wages cut
