The government took control of railways under DORA
This was so that troops, weapons and supplies could be moved at any time without delay. This however is inconvenient for travelling Scot’s as lines could be closed to ordinary people at any time
No one was allowed to loiter near bridges or ports in case they where enemy spies
This made people unhappy as one women in in Edinburgh for example was given a warning in court for taking a photo of the fourth road bridge
Private letters where censored to control sensitive information
This made Scot’s unhappy because letters where taking longer to arrive them in pre war times
The government put limits on the sale of alcohol after fears drunk ness and anti-social behaviour could cause problems
This made Scot’s unhappy as the government had the power to close puns and dilute alcohol
DORA also gave local authorities the right to take land and turn it over for food production
Some people where unhappy about this because land was being claimed from large private estates
Foreign citizens where required to carry identification cards with them at all times and some where held in prison for the duration of the war
This made them unhappy as they where treated awfully by local authorities and the public despite having lived here for many years
