    - tornadoes or a tsunami will create a crisis over a hail storm breaking your window in your home
    - an illness resulting in death over a week long flu
  2. very stressful events that widely impact members
    - a family member enters a new school, family may have to relocate and adjust to new home, environment
  3. sudden, important events
    - sudden accidental death after a long illness
    - family has no time to prepare for change
  4. events requiring major adjustments
    - a divorce will change a family’s structure and will never be the same again
