Edward’s growing independence
Warwick was so powerful that many contemporary observers across the channel believed he was the real ruler of England
Edward was determined to decide the foreign policy himself and chose his own advisors, counsel and wife
This undermined Warwick’s power as he was not vital to the continuation of the reign as he had been in the instigation

Clarence was easily Persuaded by Warwick to join his side as the younger brother of a king was usually dissident and restless because of his lack of power
Warwick and Clarence got a dispensation from the Pope so that Clarence could marry Isabel
Clarence was very useful to Warwick as he was the heir presumptive because by 1469 Edward still did not have a son
Disagreement over foreign policy
Warwick and Edward were divided over foreign policy
Warwick wanted an alliance with France
Edward wanted an alliance with the Burgundians
in November 1467 - there were 2 treaties with burgundy
