What happened?
Buckingham tried to agree to peace terms with York who demanded the removal of Somerset and others from the King’s presence
Neville’s launched the attack surrounding the Royal forces
They took the king into their protective custody
Deaths
Lancastrian deaths = Somerset, Northumberland and Clifford
Yorkist deaths = Clinton and Ogle
Outcome
Yorkist Victory
However, this violent seizure of power changed nothing and York was still not able to claim his right to be the King’s principal minister
After the battle, York made his way to London with the King
He made Parliament meet to bestow the offices of state on his own supporters
Impact on the Lancastrians
-They had lost their power over the throne
- Margaret was on the run with surviving Lancastrian leaders
- She had lost her husband and any command she had on how the country was run
-The situation continues until 1456 when Margaret regains the ascendancy and caused the Duke of York and his party to lose their positions
