What is the origin of the lingual nerve?
Posterior division of the mandibular nerve.
What type of nerve is the lingual nerve?
Sensory
What is the target of the lingual nerve?
Mucosa of anterior two-thirds of the tongue.
Describe the pathway of the lingual nerve.
Originates in infratemporal fossa, deep to lateral pterygoid muscle.
Runs anteroinferiorly between medial pterygoid muscle and mandible, passing into oral cavity between hyoglossus and mylohyoid muscles.
Continues anteriorly, passing medially under submandibular duct to enter the anterolateral surface of the tongue.
Describe the origin of the cervical branch of the facial nerve.
Inferior division of facial nerve.
What type of nerve is the cervical branch of the facial nerve?
Motor
Describe the pathway of the cervical branch of the facial nerve.
Runs inferiorly and slightly anteriorly through the parotid gland down below mandible and into the neck.
What is the target of the cervical branch of the facial nerve?
Platysma muscle.
Describe the origin of the marginal mandibular branch of the facial nerve.
Inferior division of the facial nerve.
What type of nerve is the marginal mandibular branch of the facial nerve?
Motor
What is the target of the marginal mandibular branch of the facial nerve?
Muscles of facial expression located in lower portion of face and jaw.
Describe the pathway of the marginal mandibular branch of the facial nerve.
Runs inferiorly and anteriorly through the parotid gland to the chin.
Describe the origin of the inferior alveolar nerve.
Posterior division of the mandibular nerve.
