Face and Scalp Flashcards
what are the 5 layers of the scalp?
Skin Connective tissue aponeurosis loose areolar connective tissue pericranium
what is the innervation of the occipitofrontalis?
facial nerve
what are the 6 nerves that supply sensory nerve function to the scalp (in the superficial fascia)?
supratrochlear nerve supraorbital nerve zygomaticotemporal nerve auriculotemporal nerve lesser occipital nerve greater occipital nerve
all of the arteries to the scalp are from the external carotid artery except which 2?
supratrochlear and supraorbital
what are the 5 arteries that supply blood to the scalp?
supratrochlear supraorbital superficial temporal artery posterior auricular artery occipital artery
what are the 5 veins that drain the scalp
external jugular vein' occipital vein superficial temporal vein supratrochlear vein supraorbital vein
where does the forehead and anterior part of the scalp drain?
submandibular lymph nodes
where does the lateral part of the scalp above the ear drain?
parotid nodes
where does the back of the scalp drain?
occipital nodes
where does the area above and behind the ear drain?
mastoid nodes
what is the sensory innervation of the skin of the face supplied by?
3 branches of the trigeminal nerve (opthalmic, maxillary, mandibular)
what are the 5 divisions of the opthalmic branch of the trigeminal nerve?
infratrochlear supratrochlear supraorbital extra nasal lacrimal
what are the 3 branches of the maxillary division of the trigeminal nerve?
infraorbital
zygomaticotemporal
zygomaticofacial
what are the 3 branches of the mandibular division of the trigeminal nerve?
mental nerve
buccal nerve
Auriculotemporal n.
what are the 2 main arteries that supply blood to the face?
superficial temporal artery
facial artery
what are the branches of the facial artery?
inferior labial artery
superior labial artery
submental artery
lateral nasal artery
what is the branch of the superficial temporal artery?
transverse facial artery
the facial vein is connected to the superior opthalmic vein. Why is this important clinically?
this superior opthalmic vein is connected to the cavernous sinus. Infection can spread from the face to the cavernous sinus this way
where does lymph from the forehead and anterior part of the face drain?
submandibular lymph nodes
where does lymph from the lateral parts of face and lateral part of eyelids drain?
parotid nodes
where does lymph from the central part of the lower lip and skin of chin drain?
submental lymph nodes
what is the sphincter muscle of the eyelid?
orbicularis oculi
What is the sphincter muscle of the nose?
compressor naris
What is the sphincter muscle of the mouth?
orbicularis oris
what is the innervation of the buccinator muscle?
buccal branch of the facial nerve
what pierces the buccinator muscle?
parotid duct
what are the branches of the facial nerve?
temporal zygomatic buccal mandibular cervical
what is the action of the occipitofrontalis?
move the scalp on the skull and raise the eyebrows
what 2 veins come together to form the external jugular vein?
posterior auricular vein + posterior division of the retromandibular vein
