F: Techniques Of Flight Instruction Flashcards
What are some obstacles to learning during flight instruction?
Unfair treatment
Impatience
Worry or lack of interest
Physical discomfort
Inadequate instruction
Anxiety
What is the demonstration-performance training method?
Instructor explains and does
Instructor explains and student does
Student explains and student does
Instructor evaluates and critiques
How is a positive exchange of controls done?
This is a 3 step process that ensures there is no doubt about who is flying.
Instructor: You have the flight controls
Student: I have the flight controls
Instructor: You have the flight controls
What is a sterile cockpit?
No unnecessary talking during critical phases of flight; taxi, takeoff and landing as well as below 10,000 feet unless in cruise.
How and why do you use distractions during training
Using distractions can help students understand that their priority is to fly the aircraft. By distracting them you you are teaching them to stay focused on flying rather than secondary tasks. Retrieving a pen, reaching into the back seat or asking them to read a chart while flying are some ways to do this.
What is integrated flight instruction?
This is a method for teaching a student to use both visual reference and instruments to increase situational awareness. Referring to the instruments to verify what they are seeing outside of the aircraft increase safety and situational awareness.
Why is assessment of the student important?
It helps determine what the student learned, how the student learns and how well the student learns. This will help the instructor decide the next steps in training aka solo, cross country, radio calls, etc.
What is aeronautical decision making?
It is the method of making sound decisions from prior to flying all the way to parking the plane. The DECIDE method is a good way to address a situation.
Detect - look for the change
Estimate - What needs to be done to address it
Choose - choose the best course of action
Identify - what needs to be done to resolve
Do - do the identified action
Evaluate - did it work?
