Clinical presentation of open angle glaucoma
atrophy of outer rim of optic nerve - loss of peripheral vision
Continued damage- loss of central vision
Open angle glaucoma secondary causes pathphys
Clogged canal of schlem
Closed angle glaucoma secondary pathphys
Hypoxia from retina disease like DM or retinal vein occ. –> neovascularization –> iris push anteriorly
Chronic closed angle glaucoma
Initially asymptomatic : can progress from peripheral to central visual field loss
Acute closed angle glaucoma
Abrupt onset of severe eye pain, eye redness, dilated non reactive pupil, blurry vision, seeing halos around lights, frontal headaches, n & v
Characteristic of wet age rel macular deg
Yellow extracellular deposits between bruch membrane and retinal pigment epithelium
Characteristic of dry age related macular deg
Abnormal neovasularization
Clinical features of wet age rel macular deg
Rapid central vision loss over weeks/ months
Clinical features of dry age related macular deg
Gradual vision problems (metamorphasia, scotomoas) –> eventual central vision loss
