Eye Flashcards
What does the sclera do
It’s the white outer coat
Tough protection
Provides attachment for muscles
What does the choroid do
Nourishes outer layers of retina
Regulates retinal heat
Assists control of pressure
What does the cornea do
Shares the protective task
The outmost lens
What does the aqueous humor do
It is the watery fluid between the cornea and the crystalline lens
Maintains pressure
Provides nutrition
What does the iris do
Coloured part of eye
Allows eye to function over wide range of light levels
What does the pupil do
Regulates amount of light enters the eye
When it’s smaller less light enters
What does the lens do
Changes shape changing focal distance
Eye can focus on specific objects at various distances
What does the vitreous humor do
A clear gel-like substance
Occupies space behind lens and in front of retina
What does the retina do
A thin layer of tissue lining back of eye
Receives light lens focuses on
Converts light to neural signals
What does the fovea do
Responsible for sharpest vision
No blood vessels
Allows to read, drive
