sporophyte generation (vascular plant)

haploid spores which germinate giving rise to a young gametophyte
what type of spore does the young gametophyte produce when it develops?
bisexual (has both reproductive organs)
where are the antheridia and archegonia located?
antheridia are located near rhiziods
archegonia located near heart shaped notch
how does the sperm fertilize the egg?
NOT self fertilization
-sperm from one gametophyte fertilized an egg from a different gametophyte via water
what happens after fertilization?
a diploid zygote is formed which gives rise to a sporophyte
what the the new sporophyte give rise to?
a mature diploid sporophyte that contains sori on the underside of the sporophylls
what do sori contain?
the sporangia that give rise to spores which will be dispersed when sporangia pop open
