Little apple, little egg. Meaning: piece of cake, easy.
Maart roert en staart
The weather is unpredictable, even in March.
April doet wat hij wil.
April does what it will.
Oude koeien coe uit de sloot halen
Get all the cows out of the small ditch (with water in the bottom).
De aap komt uit de mouw
The monkey comes out of the sleeve. After someone has been beating around the bush for awhile.
De appel valt niet ver van de boom
The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree
Als eer een schaap over de dam is, volgen er meer.
If one sheep is over the dam, the rest will follow.
Hebt de klok horen luiden maar je veet niet vaar de klepel hangt
The bell rings but you don’t know where the bell-clapper is. You know something but you don’t know all the details. Or you’re a bit confused. “Iets met een klok en een klepel.”
Met je mond vol tanden.
With your mouth full of teeth (you’re speechless).
De soep wordt niet zo heet gegeten als hij wordt ophediend.
The soup will not be eaten as hot as it is served.
Gaan met die banan.
Go for it (literally go with the banana).
Hij stinkt een uur in de wind.
He (or she) stinks even after an hour in the wind.
Ergens je buik vol van hebben.
My stomach is full of it. You’ve had enough. You’re fed up with something.
De touwtjes in handen hebben.
You’re pulling all of the strings (literally, you have all the strings in your hands).
Zo stoned als een garnaal.
I’m stoned as a shrimp.
Van uitstel komt afstel.
If you postpone something, then you’ll never do it. From the postponement comes the end (literally).
In het ootje genomen.
He was taken into the little o (literally). He was tricked or fooled.
Als twee honden vechten om een been gaat de derde er mee heen.
If two hounds are fighting over a bone, then the third comes in and takes it away.
Iemand blij maken met een dooie mus.
You make someone happy with a dead sparrow. You’re pretending to make someone but it doesn’t actually work.
Dat is een vaarheid als een koe.
That is the truth as if a cow. It’s really really true.
Ergens de draak mee steken.
Somewhere stabbing a dragon. Poking fun at someone.
Beter een vogel in de hand dan tien in de lucht.
Better to have to one bird in the hand than ten in the sky.

To finish with a fizzle. A disappointing ending (Belgium). If the ending is a relief (Dutch).
