Q

What is interference and explanation for forgetting

A

In LTM. Once information has reached LTM it is more less permanent

Q

What is the reason for forgetting of LTM

A

Because we can’t get access to them even though they are available. Interference between memories makes it harder for us to locate them and experienced as forgetting

Q

What is the research on the effects of similarity

A

In both PI and RI the interference are worse when the memory is similar

Q

What’s the procedure on effects of similarity

A

MCgeoh and MCDonald studied retroactive interference by changing the amount two sets of materials. Participants had to learn list of 10 words until they could remember them with 100% accuracy. They then learned a new list. They were six groups of participants who had learn different types of list

Q

What are the findings and conclusions

A

Most similar material produced the worst recall. This shows that interference is strongest when the memories are similar

Q

What’s the explanation of effect of similarity

A

The reason similarity affect recall may be due to PI previously stored memory makes new similar information difficult to store

Or due to RI new information overwrites previous similar memories because of the similarity
