Q

What is an independent group design?

A
  • One group takes part in condition 1, whereas another group takes part in condition 2.
  • Ppts are randomly allocated to the conditions

Q

Weakness of independent measures?

A
  • ppt variables
  • individual differences
  • need more ppts than repeated measures

Q

Strength of repeated measures?

A
  • eliminates individual differences
  • can use counter balancing to control for order effects

Q

What is the matched pairs design?

A

Match ppts on key characteristics (age, IQ, gender) and the pairs are randomly allocated to either one or the other conditions

Q

Strength of matched pairs?

A
  • reduced ppts variables
  • no order effects
  • best people to use are MZ twins

Q

Weakness of matched pairs?

A
  • time consuming
  • need more ppts than repeated measures
  • ppts not identical so there may be some ppt variables

Q

What does the AB BA do?

A
  • allows for comparison
  • reduces order effects as they are balanced out
  • splits ppts in half

Q

What does the ABBA

A
  • All ppts take part
  • scores on trial 1+4 compared
