purpose?
Metabolic waste?
To excrete metabolic waste into the environment and regulate blood and pH within body
Any waste product produced by metabolism
- by-Products in cellular reactions
- breaking down protein/ nucleic acid into energy
- does not include feces

major waste products? 3 types?
Ammonia (fish, aquatic invertebrates)
Urea (mammals,sharks, adult amphibians)
Utica acid (birds, terrestrial, reptiles)

Use contractile vacuoles to pump excess fluid out
Have metanephridia expels waste
Malphigian tubules found in insects
Excrete nitrogenous waste as Uric acid
- cloaca as paste
- sweat glands in head

Balance blood pH
Maintain water balance in blood

Hold 25% bodies blood

Unbalanced blood from heart to kidney
Carries balanced blood from kidneys to heart
Urine passes though tubules, gathers in pelvis
Carries urine from pelvis to bladder
Outer region of kidney, contains portion of nephron
Inner region of kidney, contains portion of nephron
