Electrochemical Impulse Flashcards
1
Q
ELECTROCHEMICAL IMPULSES
Sodium potassium pump?
A
Every three Na out, 2 K in results in negative charge inside cell membrane
2
Q
ELECTROCHEMICAL IMPULSES
action potentials?
A
- Neuron membrane maintains resting potential (-70mV)
- Threshold stimulus is received
- Sodium channels open
- Na into cell, depolarizing membrane (+40mV)
- sodium channels close, potassium channels open
- K into cell, repolarizing membrane
- Membrane becomes hyper polarized to -90mV
- Potassium channels close
- Na/K pump restore resting potential
3
Q
ELECTROCHEMICAL IMPULSES
Resting potential?
A
Inside of neurons membrane has negative charge
Na pumped out and K pumped in
K can leak out of cell membrane
Inside of membranes negative charge is relative to outside called membrane potential
