Exchange system in plants Flashcards
How does Carbon dioxide enter the leaves?
This enters the leaves through diffusion
How is water and ions taken into plants?
This is through the use of active transport absorbing ions and water from the soil
How is the root specialised for active transport ?
The Surface area of the root is increased by the root hairs.
How is the surface area of a leaf increased?
This is increased by the flattened shape and internal air spaces
What do plants use to obtain carbon dioxide from atmosphere and release oxygen ?
Plants use stomata to obtain carbon dioxide for photosynthesis and remove oxygen from photosynthesis
How is water mainly lost from a plant ?
This is through the stomata
When does evaporation mainly happen ?
This is more rapid in hot, windy or dry conditions
What happens when plants lose water faster than it is replaced by roots.
The stomata closes stopping water being lost from gas exchange.
What is the size of the stomata controlled by
This is by the guard cells
