Diaphragm
Upward-curved, c-shaped muscle & fibrous protein structure separating thoracic cavity from abdomen. Contraction leads to inhalation.
Caval opening
Passes through central tendon of diaphragm. Contains inferior vena cava.
Pharynx
aka throat, passageway extending skull to sixth cervical vertebrae. Serves respiratory & digestive systems: air from nasal cavity and food, air and water from oral cavity.
Larynx
aka voice box, includes vocal cords. 2in tube in adults. Above wind pipe and in front of food pipe.
Spiracle
Exoskeleton opening of insects and derived spiders allowing air into trachea

Tracheoles
Fine insect/spider tracheal respiratory tubes, about 1 micrometre diameter, respiratory system part.

Fibrous polysaccharide substance, arthropod exoskeleton and fungal cell wall component

One of three main insect body parts, middle segment after head before abdomen
Tracheal fluid
Insect fluid at ends of tracheoles, where gas exchange takes place
