Definitions of Addiction, Dependence, Tolerance, and Withdrawal
Addiction: organism engages in compulsive and reinforcing/rewarding behavior, but loses control of limiting intake
Dependence: when an organism normally only in the presence of the drug, and a physical disturbance manifests when drug is removed (withdrawal)
Tolerance: when an organism no longer responds to a drug, and must have higher doses to obtain effectiveness
